In 2019, the Municipality of Port Hope, in consultation with the Waterfront and Riverwalk Working Group, initiated the development of the Waterfront and Riverwalk Master Plan (WRMP). Planning Solutions Inc. assisted in the creation of a Terms of Reference that guided the development of a new Master Plan, to succeed the 2009 Consolidated Waterfront Master Plan (CWMP). WSP Canada Inc. was retained to work with the Municipality of Port Hope and engage the community and stakeholders to deliver a high-quality, achievable Master Plan. Comprehensive community consultation took place in 2022 prior to the release of the Draft Plan. The Plan is expected to be endorsed by Council in October 2023.
The Waterfront and Riverwalk Master Plan is founded on an analysis of existing conditions, previous studies, technical reviews, and feedback from the community. The plan establishes a framework to guide planning and investment in public amenities, facilities, and infrastructure in a holistic manner to achieve the long-term vision for the Port Hope Waterfront and Ganaraska River. It is intended to be a tool used by the Municipality, agencies, developers, and the public as it relates to expectations for future projects within the WRMP study area. The WRMP encompasses aspects that will be delivered incrementally through individual projects at a wide range of scales over different timelines.
The Waterfront and Riverwalk Master Plan has been developed for the community, by the community, and has the ability to positively transform the Municipality of Port Hope.
